Todo lo controlaba la monja sor María Gómez Valbuena. Esta religiosa era asistente social en la maternidad pública de Santa Cristina (O’Donnell, 59) y al mismo tiempo era la que conducía a las embarazadas a la clínica privada San Ramón dirigida por el doctor Eduardo Vela Vela. Situada en el paseo de la Habana, 143 de Madrid, la maternidad funcionó hasta que fue cerrada por el escándalo de compra-venta de bebés, ‘incidente’ que se achacó entonces a una trama de prostitución y se archivaron las denuncias. Durante casi 30 años, cientos de madres solteras, muchas menores de edad, fueron llevadas a dar a luz a San Ramón. La monja sor María Gómez Valbuena “Sor María se encargaba de cobrar a los padres y de pagar los gastos de esas chicas. Los pisos pertenecían a gente muy católica, de su confianza, que también cobraba. Sor María interrogaba a los padres adoptantes, antes recomendados por otras monjas o curas. San Ramón fue una fábrica de bebés expósitos [abandonados]. Había que seguir alimentando el negocio”, dice María, adoptada nacida en 1981 en esa clínica y hoy coordinadora de la Plataforma de Afectados de la Clínica San Ramón, Santa Cristina y Belén de Madrid. Más de 300 afectados, entre adoptados y un grupo de madres que buscan a sus hijos, integran esta plataforma que ha denunciado el tráfico de bebés en la maternidad de San Ramón. Fueron cientos los bebés adoptados gracias a la falsificación de documentos. La trama de San Ramón saltó a los medios de comunicación ya durante el Franquismo, pero la información se tapó. “Nosotros preferimos hablar de niños adoptados irregularmente, no de bebés robados. Tenemos escrituras de adopción, pero en esos documentos hay muchas zonas oscuras. No consta la madre biológica, no hay renuncia al bebé firmada por la madre y en muchos casos no se tramitaba la adopción plena porque los padres adoptivos figuraban desde el inicio como padres biológicos del bebé", aclara la coordinadora de la plataforma. Además, las madres que daban a luz en la maternidad de San Ramón, en la mayoría de los casos, no contaban con los seis meses, mínimo, que marcaba la ley entonces para ratificarse en la adopción de sus bebés, en caso de que hubieran dado su consentimieto. Adopciones y robo de niños Ellos, como muchos afectados, han iniciado su investigación particular y ahora cruzan datos con otros hijos adoptados de esa clínica y de otras maternidades afectadas por el robo de niños. “Nos sorprende la cantidad de nacimientos que se produjeron en una clínica tan pequeña. ¿De dónde llegaban tantas mujeres embarazadas?”, se pregunta María. San Ramón sólo tenía diez habitaciones y se producían un mínimo de dos o tres partos por día. Los adoptados de San Ramón tienen ahora un puzle casi completo pero aún les faltan piezas. Esas madres eran enviadas desde todo el Estado español e incluso del extranjero, y lo mismo se hacía con los bebés, según ha constatado todos estos años la Plataforma de Afectados de San Ramón, los niños eran trasladados a diferentes puntos y al extranjero. Llegado el momento del parto las embarazadas eran conducidas a la clínica San Ramón. Algunas no sabían que su hijo iba a ser dado en adopción, otras sí, pero el médico y la monja se encargaban de organizarlo todo para que las madres no pudieran arrepentirse. Anestesiar a las embarazadas Las dormían y cuando despertaban ya no estaba el niño. Las adopciones de San Ramón están cargadas de irregularidades. “La madre no podía retractarse, en el caso de que hubiera dado el consentimiento. En los trámites legales, en muchos casos los padres adoptivos no aparecían por el juzgado para firmar la adopción. En otras ocasiones, el propio Vela se personaba en el juzgado testificando que la madre biológica había dado el consentimiento pero que ella no podía personarse; otras veces, directamente, les daban a los nuevos padres la adopción plena del hijo sin esperar los seis meses que marcaba la ley. Sor María les decía a los padres que ella les arreglaba los papeles”, explican desde la Plataforma de Afectados de San Ramón. Pero el rosario de falsificaciones no acaba. El registro de los recién nacidos lo llevaba a cabo el encargado de mantenimiento de la clínica, Ramón Calandria, y más tarde la administrativa Consuelo Rodríguez Martínez, e incluso el propio Vela. Las negligencias durante el parto en la clínica San Ramón también eran notables. Según los testimonios recogidos por esta plataforma, como las mujeres estaban anestesiadas, no podían empujar y muchos bebés nacían con fórceps. En otros casos, “las episiotomías eran casi cesáreas vaginales para ayudar a que el niño naciera. Tras el parto, se les vendaban los pechos con fuerza para evitar la subida de leche porque el hijo ya no estaba con ellas. Y a los dos días, las madres dejaban la maternidad. Era un negocio y había que dejar las habitaciones libres. La recuperación tras el parto la hacían en los pisos”, explican los afectados. Venta de bebés: 50.000 pesetas de entonces Mientras, los padres adoptivos pagaban los gastos de la madre biológica. La administrativa, Consuelo Rodríguez, desglosaba la factura: estancia, quirófano, matrona, gasas, teléfono... Según los testimonios, “se pagaban de 50.000 pesetas de entonces para arriba. Se incluían cantidades elevadas en concepto de ‘teléfono’. Era una forma de cobrar por la adopción del bebé”. Pero, sin duda, la ‘irregularidad’ más cruel es que, en todos los casos, en las escrituras de adopción figura que fueron abandonados. “¿Todos los adoptados en esa clínica fuimos abandonados? ¿Dónde están las renuncias de las madres? Si ellas quisieran ahora buscar a sus hijos, su dolor sería aún peor. Pero es que además, nosotros tenemos derecho a encontrar nuestros orígenes”, señalan María y David Rodríguez. “Antes de nacer los niños ya estaban adjudicados, según los casos que hemos investigado. En la plataforma, el 95% son adoptados irregulares y un 5% apropiados”, explica María. Y añade que la mayoría, probablemente, no descubrirán nunca que son adoptados. Fueron inscritos como hijos biológicos de sus padres adoptivos. En San Ramón también daban a luz mujeres que sí estaban casadas, pero igualmente sus bebés desaparecían nada más nacer. Algunos de estos casos ya están en las fiscalías para ser investigados. A las madres se les decía que el bebé necesitaba estar en una incubadora. Días después les comunicaban que el niño había muerto y, si insistían en ver el cadáver, les mostraban un niño muerto, siempre el mismo, sacado de una cámara frigorífica. Los mismos argumentos, médicos, monjas y otros actores, coinciden con los testimonios recogidos en las maternidades públicas. "Para evitar abortos" “Ellos se escudaban en la caridad cristiana, una caridad que yo creo fue retorcida” señala David Rodríguez, de 29 años, portavoz de la Plataforma de Afectados de las Clínicas San Ramón, Santa Cristina y Belén. Rodríguez nació en San Ramón y fue dado en adopción nada más nacer. “Algunos de los adoptados nos hemos reunido varias veces con el doctor Vela para pedirle datos. Nos ha recibido en el salón de su casa. Él dice que nuestra documentación se destruyó y asegura que lo que hizo era lo mejor para los niños y para las madres. En una ocasión nos dijo que lo hizo “porque había barcos que se iban a aguas internacionales a provocar abortos”, se me quedó grabado dice David. Los afectados tienen ejemplos que explican cómo muchos de los cargos de esa asociación se hicieron fácilmente con hijos adoptados. Además, como publicó DIAGONAL en 2009, un ginecólogo acusado por varias familias del supuesto robo de bebés, el doctor Ignacio Villa Elízaga, de la maternidad pública Santa Cristina, también daba el visto bueno de esas adopciones irregulares de San Ramón. Y aunque en muchos casos se adoptó con escrituras, “éstas se hallan llenas de irregularidades. Además, los mismos que las firmaron también se hicieron sin problemas con bebés”, señalan los afectados de San Ramón. San Ramón sólo tenía diez habitaciones y se producían un mínimo de dos o tres partos por día. Los adoptados de San Ramón tienen ahora un puzle casi completo pero aún les faltan piezas. Esas madres eran enviadas desde todo el Estado español e incluso del extranjero, y lo mismo se hacía con los bebés, según ha constatado todos estos años la Plataforma de Afectados de San Ramón, los niños eran trasladados a diferentes puntos y al extranjero. Llegado el momento del parto las embarazadas eran conducidas a la clínica San Ramón. Algunas no sabían que su hijo iba a ser dado en adopción, otras sí, pero el médico y la monja se encargaban de organizarlo todo para que las madres no pudieran arrepentirse. Anestesiar a las embarazadas Las dormían y cuando despertaban ya no estaba el niño. Las adopciones de San Ramón están cargadas de irregularidades. “La madre no podía retractarse, en el caso de que hubiera dado el consentimiento. En los trámites legales, en muchos casos los padres adoptivos no aparecían por el juzgado para firmar la adopción. En otras ocasiones, el propio Vela se personaba en el juzgado testificando que la madre biológica había dado el consentimiento pero que ella no podía personarse; otras veces, directamente, les daban a los nuevos padres la adopción plena del hijo sin esperar los seis meses que marcaba la ley. Sor María les decía a los padres que ella les arreglaba los papeles”, explican desde la Plataforma de Afectados de San Ramón. Pero el rosario de falsificaciones no acaba. El registro de los recién nacidos lo llevaba a cabo el encargado de mantenimiento de la clínica, Ramón Calandria, y más tarde la administrativa Consuelo Rodríguez Martínez, e incluso el propio Vela. Las negligencias durante el parto en la clínica San Ramón también eran notables. Según los testimonios recogidos por esta plataforma, como las mujeres estaban anestesiadas, no podían empujar y muchos bebés nacían con fórceps. En otros casos, “las episiotomías eran casi cesáreas vaginales para ayudar a que el niño naciera. Tras el parto, se les vendaban los pechos con fuerza para evitar la subida de leche porque el hijo ya no estaba con ellas. Y a los dos días, las madres dejaban la maternidad. Era un negocio y había que dejar las habitaciones libres. La recuperación tras el parto la hacían en los pisos”, explican los afectados. Venta de bebés: 50.000 pesetas de entonces Mientras, los padres adoptivos pagaban los gastos de la madre biológica. La administrativa, Consuelo Rodríguez, desglosaba la factura: estancia, quirófano, matrona, gasas, teléfono... Según los testimonios, “se pagaban de 50.000 pesetas de entonces para arriba. Se incluían cantidades elevadas en concepto de ‘teléfono’. Era una forma de cobrar por la adopción del bebé”. Pero, sin duda, la ‘irregularidad’ más cruel es que, en todos los casos, en las escrituras de adopción figura que fueron abandonados. “¿Todos los adoptados en esa clínica fuimos abandonados? ¿Dónde están las renuncias de las madres? Si ellas quisieran ahora buscar a sus hijos, su dolor sería aún peor. Pero es que además, nosotros tenemos derecho a encontrar nuestros orígenes”, señalan María y David Rodríguez. “Antes de nacer los niños ya estaban adjudicados, según los casos que hemos investigado. En la plataforma, el 95% son adoptados irregulares y un 5% apropiados”, explica María. Y añade que la mayoría, probablemente, no descubrirán nunca que son adoptados. Fueron inscritos como hijos biológicos de sus padres adoptivos. En San Ramón también daban a luz mujeres que sí estaban casadas, pero igualmente sus bebés desaparecían nada más nacer. Algunos de estos casos ya están en las fiscalías para ser investigados. A las madres se les decía que el bebé necesitaba estar en una incubadora. Días después les comunicaban que el niño había muerto y, si insistían en ver el cadáver, les mostraban un niño muerto, siempre el mismo, sacado de una cámara frigorífica. Los mismos argumentos, médicos, monjas y otros actores, coinciden con los testimonios recogidos en las maternidades públicas. "Para evitar abortos" “Ellos se escudaban en la caridad cristiana, una caridad que yo creo fue retorcida” señala David Rodríguez, de 29 años, portavoz de la Plataforma de Afectados de las Clínicas San Ramón, Santa Cristina y Belén. Rodríguez nació en San Ramón y fue dado en adopción nada más nacer. “Algunos de los adoptados nos hemos reunido varias veces con el doctor Vela para pedirle datos. Nos ha recibido en el salón de su casa. Él dice que nuestra documentación se destruyó y asegura que lo que hizo era lo mejor para los niños y para las madres. En una ocasión nos dijo que lo hizo “porque había barcos que se iban a aguas internacionales a provocar abortos”, se me quedó grabado dice David. Desde la plataforma se apunta que la Asociación Española para la Protección de la Adopción (AEPA) estaba también en la trama. Denuncian que todo se hacía con la complicidad de las personas e instituciones que en teoría debían vigilar las adopciones. La AEPA y el Tribunal Tutelar de Menores daban el visto bueno a esas adopciones cargadas de irregularidades y datos falsos. Los afectados tienen ejemplos que explican cómo muchos de los cargos de esa asociación se hicieron fácilmente con hijos adoptados. Además, como publicó DIAGONAL en 2009, un ginecólogo acusado por varias familias del supuesto robo de bebés, el doctor Ignacio Villa Elízaga, de la maternidad pública Santa Cristina, también daba el visto bueno de esas adopciones irregulares de San Ramón. Y aunque en muchos casos se adoptó con escrituras, “éstas se hallan llenas de irregularidades. Además, los mismos que las firmaron también se hicieron sin problemas con bebés”, señalan los afectados de San Ramón. Cinco encuentros La Plataforma de Afectados de las Clínicas San Ramón, Santa Cristina y Belén, ya ha conseguido cinco encuentros entre hijos adoptados y madres biológicas. Jaime Ledesma es el mediador familiar de la plataforma que prepara a las familias para ese momento. “Se trabaja el duelo [la pérdida]. Es complejo porque hasta que se lleve a cabo la prueba del ADN, no sabemos con certeza si esa madre o ese hijo son los que buscamos. Cuando tenemos datos suficientes contactamos con la madre biológica. En la primera llamada le digo que una persona la está buscando. La primera reacción es siempre de silencio. En sucesivas llamadas vamos acercándonos hasta el encuentro”, dice Ledesma. Muchas madres llegaron a dar a luz en la clínica San Ramón, en Madrid, desde Toledo, Ávila, Barcelona o Bilbao, entre otras provincias. La plataforma de San Ramón y las asociaciones de niños robados han colgado en sus webs nombres de personas e instituciones que intervinieron en estas adopciones y casos de supuestos robos. Piden a la Fiscalía que investigue las adopciones realizadas por la AEPA, a las personas que firmaron documentos falsificados o incompletos, como el desaparecido Gregorio Guijarro, fundador de la AEPA y fiscal del Tribunal Supremo entonces, y otras que intervinieron en San Ramón, como el abogado José María Cruz, la asistente social Consuelo Vegas, Eduardo Vela y sor María Gómez, que aún viven. También hay casos donde intervienen organizaciones como el Teléfono de la Esperanza, Cáritas o Nuevo Futuro. DIAGONAL ha intentado entrevistar al doctor Vela. A la llamada telefónica de este medio respondió la mujer de Vela. Ella ha esplicado que su marido no podía ponerse al teléfono porque: “Nos han dicho que con periodistas no hablemos”.
